MEXICO
A girl’s coastal haven in El Bosque, Mexico, faces a transformation as rising seas redefine her world. A school submerged, homes lost—discover her tale of resilience and hope.

In the quaint town of El Bosque, Tabasco, Mexico, Emily Rubi Camcho's connection to the sea has transformed from a picturesque memory to a doorstep reality.
Emily's grandmother once spoke of a time when the sea was a drive away. Now, due to sea level rise, the waves gently lap at her doorstep. Fond memories of fishing on the river and pier with her mom are now threatened as the sea damages their coastal haven.
Emily's educational journey reflects the impact; her elementary school, succumbing to the sea, closed its doors, prompting her relocation to another town. The rising sea not only reshapes landscapes but also impacts the community, as homes crumble and lives are upended, leaving Emily and her neighbours yearning for the promise of a safer tomorrow.
OBJECT OF MEMORY
Emily's displaced education echoes the narrative of a community submerged by sea level rise. The old school, battered by relentless waves, had to shut its doors, leaving behind echoes of laughter replaced by the sombre sound of crashing waves.
The first row of houses succumbed to the sea. Emily's friend Nata, who now resides in the remnants of her grandmother's house, embodies the resilient spirit, reconstructing a tin-made house after losing his home to the unforgiving waves.
Amidst the tides of change, Emily's prayers echo a plea for resettlement, a ray of hope in the face of sea level rise rewriting the story of her community.
